Knowing Jesus

Colossians 2:1-3: “For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you…and for all who have not seen me face to face, their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

This kind of knowledge is not just knowing about Jesus, having read many theological books, or knowing all the right answers to the right questions. No, it is experiencing Jesus and treasuring Him above all else.

To reach the riches of understanding and knowledge of Jesus is the supreme reward of being a Christian. When we come to Jesus, we give Him ourselves, and He gives Himself to us. We give Him our sinfulness, and He gives us His perfection. We give Him our wants and desires, and He aligns them with His will. We offer Him ourselves – everything we are and ever hope to be – and He graciously allows us to be made new in Him. Knowing Jesus and reaching the riches of understanding and knowledge of Him is the greatest blessing anyone can experience.
